How Much Does Stone Benchtop Chip Repair Cost in 2026?

Stone benchtop chip repair usually costs $250 to $450 in the Illawarra. Here's what affects the price and what to look out for when you're getting quotes.

You've chipped the edge of your kitchen benchtop. It happens. A pot lid drops, a saucepan catches the corner, a kid slams a cupboard door with a jar in it. Now you're staring at a small crater in a very expensive surface and wondering what it's going to cost to fix.

Here's the short answer. Most stone benchtop chip repairs in the Illawarra sit between $250 and $450. If you've got a standard chip on a common engineered stone, expect to be at the lower end. If it's on a rare colour, a curved edge or a waterfall, you'll be closer to the top.

What affects the price

Size of the chip. A 5mm chip is a quick fix. A 50mm chunk missing from the corner is a bigger repair that needs more material, more colour-matching and more time.

Where the chip is. A chip on the top of the benchtop in a flat, open area is easy. A chip right on the edge or on the corner of a waterfall is harder, because the repair has to match the profile of the stone and stand up to being touched every day.

What stone you've got. Plain white Caesarstone is simple to colour-match. A heavily patterned stone with veining, speckles and multiple colours takes longer because every shade needs to be blended by eye.

How many chips. If you've got one chip, it's a straight fixed price. If you've got three or four spread across the kitchen, you'll usually get a better rate per chip because the setup time is the same.

Your location. Most repairers charge a travel fee once you're more than 30 minutes from their base. We don't charge travel inside the Illawarra because we live here.

What's usually included in the price

A proper chip repair quote should include the site visit, the colour-matching, the repair itself and a clean-up afterwards. You shouldn't be billed extra for travel inside the Illawarra, and you shouldn't be hit with GST "on top" unless it was stated up-front.

What to watch out for

Anyone quoting under $150 for a benchtop chip repair is almost always going to do a rushed job. The materials alone aren't free and the colour-matching takes time. If the price looks too good, ask what product they're using and whether they're matching the colour on-site or using a pre-mixed filler. Pre-mixed filler doesn't blend properly and you'll see the repair forever.

The other red flag is anyone who won't give you a fixed quote from a photo. If you're being told "it depends, we'll have a look on the day", you've got no protection against the price jumping once they're standing in your kitchen.

How long does it take?

Most chip repairs are finished in under an hour on-site. A bigger repair or one on a complex edge might take 90 minutes. There's no reason for a standard chip repair to take a full day.

Is it worth it?

Replacing a stone benchtop costs anywhere from $3,000 for a small kitchen up to $10,000 plus for a big one. Even the highest chip repair quote is a fraction of that, and the repair will last for years if it's done properly.

For a small chip, you're generally better off with a proper repair than living with it. Chips on the edge tend to grow over time because the edge keeps getting knocked, so the sooner it's fixed, the less it'll cost.
